Regulations of the Road: Equipment Violations

Posted by Lance Cheney

June 29. 2017

Everyone knows the movie scene where a criminal gets caught because they commit a lesser crime. There’s the murderer who gets caught shoplifting, or the drug-dealer who gets pulled over for a broken taillight. It always sounds implausible, but the experts at Edmunds.com say that equipment violations are one of the tops reasons drivers get pulled over. Leading the list of code violations are heavily tinted windows, burned-out headlights, broken windshields, expired tags, and loud exhaust modifications.

You are painstaking about your car’s maintenance and cleaning. You carefully choose every tool, taking into consideration every nuance unique to each individual vehicle. Why would you sacrifice quality when choosing snow and ice removal tools?

The snow duster is made from 100% boar’s hair which is tapered at the end to allow the brush to pick up more snow with each swipe. Boar’s hair is also very soft which significantly reduces the amount of friction again the body of the vehicle.

Another way to reduce friction is to invest in an electric ice scraper. This type of scraper has a heating element to melt the snow as your apply pressure. Obviously if you don’t have to apply as much pressure you reduce the risk of scratching the surface of your windshield or mirrors.

Seriously, ditch the plastic ice scraper that you got free from the bank and buy one of these. Your car and your back will thank you for it.

But don’t stop there. Since you always take the very best care of your car in these winter months why not invest in a windshield blanket. Sold for about $10 at many auto retailers, the windshield cover or blanket is a weather-resistant material designed to cover your windshield during a snow or ice storm. Secured to your side view mirrors and wipers, the windshield blanket keeps your glass clear.  Then, simply remove the cover in the morning to find a clear windshield.

And of course some advice never goes out of style. Lifting your windshield wipers before the storm is a classic trick to keeping most of the snow and ice from freezing to your wipers. Once the accumulated snow and ice has been removed from your windshield you can drop them back down you’ll be set!

The snow and ice can look beautiful until you remember that you have to get to the office and realize you have an hour of work ahead removing it before you can even back out of the driveway. Resist the urge to take any shortcuts when it comes to snow and ice removal on your automobile. The extra time could mean money saved repairing damaged surface area.
